This was the tenth year of the Kent 50 Plus Music and Art Showcase at the Kent Senior Activity Center. This year we were blessed with perfect weather (a stark contrast to last year’s rain storm!)
Wally & the Beaves headlined with their entertaining, old-time rock & roll. It was as if we had a concert full of stars from the past- with seven members in the band, they have a very diverse playlist. Along the edges of the lawn, people were dancing, doing the twist, enjoying themselves, and throughout the crowd people were dancing in their seats.
Indoors we were entertained by Jazz Pianist Richard Dean.
“It’s like a piano bar,” said Laurel, an audience member. “They used to be all over the place.”
There was also an art show put on by the Kent Valley Artists group and booths set up by some of the sponsors of the event. If you filled out the feedback form, you got a ticket for the generous door prizes at the end of the evening.
Outside, Mitzel’s had a food truck with discounted dinners. The Stafford Suites gave away free deserts that tasted like my favorite of my Mom’s pies- jello mixed with whipped
cream on graham cracker crust.

The first half of the concert was in the lovely, hot sun, and the second half was like heaven- a soft breeze, the sun sunk low and rockin’ music on stage. People of all ages enjoyed this free event.
